Director of Michigan Shipwreck Research Associates, award-winning author and member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame, Valerie van Heest has been actively involved in the research used in the search effort over the last six years. In that time, she has traveled around the county to conduct research, interview dozens of witnesses and  individuals involved in the 1950 search  operations, and meet many of the  families she located   after years of genealogical research. 
       Valerie
is currently working on a book that tells the story of this accident, the modern search effort, and looks forward to a potential discovery so that her book may honor of the 58 people who lost their lives.
